APPLE PAGES VS MICROSOFT WORD FULL
I think Pages full screen option works better (although the black on the sides is pretty intense), but while I'm generally not a Microsoft fan, I have to say that for someone who uses the latest version of Word hours a day, it does just fine and looks good too. If I were considering whether to buy one or the other, I'd give them both a try and see. The big difference, of course, is expense, but I already own word. Word generally works, and the type looks fine on the screen. Word works fine, and even better in some ways: I prefer its spell checking and grammar suggestions and the way it handles them it has autosave, which pages doesn't (a third party freeware program called Eversave works fine though) it does a much better job of remembering window size adding headers and footers is easy or not that much more difficult than pages does it to make a difference. I wish there was a compelling reason to move to pages 09 just because I would like to support apple products, but for me with my regular writing work, there are no real reasons to switch. Microsoft Word offers some advanced features to paid users (more on those in a bit) but you get a better cloud storage allowance with.
APPLE PAGES VS MICROSOFT WORD FREE
I am a writer and use word for my book work and pages for a couple of teaching guides I prepare for a magazine. Now both Apple’s Pages and Microsoft’s word are free apps.

I also ran a series of secondary tests using a wide array of operating systems and browsers.I am a longtime user of both programs.
APPLE PAGES VS MICROSOFT WORD WINDOWS 7
All three suites push you into a cloud walled garden, with limited file handling and interoperability with other cloud storage services.Īll of the primary tests were performed with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11 (except for Keynote for iCloud, which I ran in Chrome). I did discuss storing, managing, and accessing files in Microsoft OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive), Google Drive, and Apple iCloud. All of the suites also include mail, calendar, contacts, notes, and other apps, but I did not consider them in this review. My reviews concentrated on the three traditional key productivity products: word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation apps. Both Office Online and iWork for iCloud are more functional than Google Drive on mobile devices, whether you access them via mobile browser or use the native mobile client. You screen-tappers will certainly have a different perspective. I also ran the suites with a keyboard and mouse. Compatibility with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents may or may not be important to you. I approached each of the suites from the perspective of a Windows and Office user, taking special interest in the way each handles Office document compatibility. Log on, use the browser-based app, and walk away. None of them require you to install, activate, or maintain any programs on your local computer.

As of this moment, iWork for iCloud is free to everyone, thus giving Apple a nice boost in the "value" category.Īll of the programs in the suites are accessed using one of the major browsers. However, keep in mind that iWork for iOS and iWork for OS X are both free for those who bought Apple machines after September 2013.

Enigmatically, Apple calls iWork for iCloud a "beta," and hasn't yet committed on pricing for the final, shipping version.

Microsoft Office Online and Google Drive are also available in paid plans for businesses. Which suite is for you? There is no clear winner in this horse race, so your specific needs will dictate that choice.Īll of these browser-based products are free for personal use.
